Govt/States LUCKNOW: Power crisis in Uttar Pradesh has deepened with authorities resorting to large scale load shedding as production came to a standstill in a 100 MW unit at Obra and the Panki power plants in the state. With no respite from heat wave conditions, the demand for power remained around 7000 MW while supply stood at 5500 MW resulting in a huge gap of 1500 MW, power department sources here said today. Sources said that the crisis would deepen further when one unit of 110 MW at Tanda would be shut for repairs from today. The claims of the government to provide 14 hour power supply to rural areas had fallen flat and the villages were receiving power for barely five to six hours. Even in the state capital undeclared rostering had been resorted to in some areas, sources said adding that regular power supply to Meerut and riot-torn Aligarh town had resulted in power cuts in other areas of the state. Sources said that the power corporation officials were in the process of trying to procure power from private companies to tide over the crisis. - PTI
